The Port of Grays Harbor received a $6.2 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to replace Westport Marina Float 21. The grant will be matched by $2.6 million in non-federal funds, totaling $8.8 million for the project.
Westport Marina, Washington's top seafood landing port, has aging docks ranging from 45 to 60 years old. The project, part of a 2022 modernization plan, will replace Floats 19 and 21 with 15 new 55-foot slips, six 90-foot slips, one 100-foot slip, and a 154-foot end tie. Upgrades include new steel piles, an 80-foot gangway, and modern utilities like electrical service and fire suppression.
Port Commission President Stan Pinnick called the grant 'a critical first step' for the marina, noting it supports hundreds of jobs. Westport Marina General Manager Molly Bold stated the project 'is a significant win for the commercial fishing industry' as it addresses growing demand for modern moorage facilities.
