State fire assistance has been mobilized for two separate wildfires in Washington State. The Ryegrass Coulee Fire, which began July 8 near Vantage in Kittitas County, is estimated at 600 acres and threatening homes and power infrastructure. State Fire Marshal Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization on July 8 at 7:45 p.m. in response to a request from Fire Chief William Rose of Kittitas County Fire District 4.
The Chelan Hills Fire, located near Orondo and Chelan Falls in Douglas County, started July 4 and covers 400 acres. State Fire Marshal Chief John Batiste authorized state resources on July 4 at 4:30 a.m. at the request of Assistant Fire Chief Justin Dennis of Douglas County Fire District 4. Both fires are burning in grass, brush, and timber.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2 partial activation for the Ryegrass Coulee Fire. State Fire Marshal's Office personnel are coordinating the dispatch of two wildland strike teams and air resources to aid in containment efforts for both fires.
